Ofcom opens consultation on regulating next generation networks

Ofcom has launched a consultation on how next generation superfast broadband networks can be best regulated. The consultation ends on June 25th 2008. It is also looking at delivery methods for superfast broadband in the UK.

One option under consideration is to deliver superfast broadband via water and electricity companies’ underground pipes.

The UK is known to be lagging behind other parts of the world in the delivery of really fast broadband – in France some broadband providers are already offering superfast home broadband at 50 to 100Mbps.
