02 cuts broadband costs for its prepay mobile customers

02 has cut the price of its three home broadband packages by £5 a month for its prepay mobile customers. This is an extension of an offer that was previously only open to 02 pay-monthly mobile customers.

It means they can sign up for 02 broadband for only £7.50 a month for up to 8mb, rising to only £15 a month for up to 20Mb.

There are terms and conditions for this offer.

Vodafone slashes mobile broadband costs

Vodafone has halved the monthly cost of its consumer mobile broadband packages – from £30 a month to only £15 a month.

Vodfaone mobile broadband works with either the USM Modem or the Modem Stick – there are different prices for this one-off cost depending on the contract length chosen.

New solution to UK rural broadband and mobile phone provision problems?

There could be a solution on the horizon to the problem of mobile phone and broadband services provision in rural britain – weather balloons.

An American company called Space Data has started doing this in rural America with some success -  a small phone mast (a lunchbox-sized transceiver) is attached to a balloon that is then released and rises to an altitude of about 100,000ft (30,500m).  Apparently one balloon can beam a signal to an area equivalent to 80 mobile phone towers with only 70 needed to cover the entire United States.

In the US, local farmers and other land workers have been are paid to release the balloons.

Tiscali cuts Tiscali TV bundle prices

Tiscali has cut the introductory cost of its two broadband, TV and phone bundles.

Both Tiscali bundles have up to 8Mb download speeds and a 12 month contract.

Half price broadband from Orange

Orange are offering half price broadband on their broadband packages Orange Broadband Starter and Orange Broadband Max for six months.

This means Orange Broadband Starter (up to 2Mb)  will be £6 a month for 6 months (then 312 a month) and Orange Broadband Max (up to 8Mb) will be £12 a month for 6 months (then £24 a month).

The offer runs from  08/02/08 to 31/03/08.

BT Broadband offers free HomeHub with Option 1

BT Total Broadband Option 1 now includes a free BT HomeHub when customers sign up online between 05/02/08 and 29/02/08.

The BT HomeHub already comes free with BT Total Broadband Option 2, and BT Total Brioadband Option 3. However previously it cost £30 with Option 1.
