BT announces second quarter and half year results

Communications giant BT has announced its second quarter and half year results to September 30, 2007.

Second quarter revenues were up 3% to £5,095 million, with half-year results showing revenue was up 3% to £10,128 million.

Broadband

For broadband, the second quarter saw broadband net additions of 479,000 (these include DSL and LLU. 178,000 of these were BT Retail connections – that’s 37%).

By September 30, 2007, BT had 11.7 million wholesale broadband connections (DSL and LLU) , including 3.2 million local loop unbundled lines, an increase of 2.4 million connections year on year. BT Retail is the UK’s number one retail broadband provider with a total broadband customer base of 4,074,000 at September 30, 2007.  This accounts for 35% of the DSL and LLU total customer base.

Other broadband-related services

When it comes to additional services, over 300,000 customers are now using BT’s broadband digital vault, a secure online digital storage service. And there are now over 1.9 million registered BT Broadband Talk customers.

BT’s TV on demand service, BT Vision (available free with BT Total broadband packages), had 60,000 customers by October. These numbers are expected to grow, helped by a new self-installation option (so no engineer visit is needed) and content developments such as BT Vision Sport, which offers premiership football subscriptions from less than £1 per week and up to 288 Barclays Premiership League games, PGA Golf and Scottish Premier league games for just £12 per month.
