Ofcom asks top ISPs why customers don’t get advertised broadband speeds
Ofcom’s consumer panel is questioning six of the top broadband providers in the UK on why customers don’t get the broadband speeds advertised with their chosen broadband package.
The panel is also suggesting that broadband providers and ISPs could:
- give potential customers more information on likely speeds in their area
- offer broadband buyers a longer cooling-off period so they would have time to test the broadband download speed before committing to a contract
- allow customers to leave a contract early if broadband speeds are way down on that advertised
The panel did accept in its letter to the broadband companies that they understood there were some technical reasons why broadband speeds might not reach those advertised.
